Joseph Ratzinger has referred to the Apostle’s Creed, the Sacraments, the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer as the ‘four classical and master components of catechesis’ which have ‘served for centuries as the depository and résumé of Catholic teaching’.16 To paddle out into the waters of theology without knowledge of these ‘classical and master components’ could be dangerous.
